May Film Forecast

This time I’ll give a review of some of the new films coming in May 2014.

To start things off, let’s take a look at “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, coming out on May 2nd. This film may lead into the “Sinister Six” spin-off movie, as well as featuring death of Gwen Stacy (played by Emma Stone). Personally, this one looks interesting to me, and I will most likely check it out.

Then there’s the latest reboot of “Godzilla”, which will hit U.S. theaters on May 16th.  Unlike the last American take on the tale, this looks to be a respectful update on the beloved 1954 classic parable of nuclear warfare.

We then see the release of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” on May 23. This will serve as a follow-up to 2011’s “X-Men: First Class” as well as a somewhat loose adaptation of Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s classic storyline of the same name, which was published in issues #141-142 of the original “Uncanny X-Men” comic book series back in 1980.  It remains to be seen if Bryan Singer can reclaim the glory of the first two X-Men films, but this film looks interesting nonetheless.

Taking a break from serious epics, let’s examine “A Million Ways to Die in The West”, which will be released on May 30. This Western spoof from “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane won’t be for everyone, but for those of us who want to see where MacFarlane’s film career will lead post-“Ted”, this film will definitely have some good laughs.

There’s more films coming in the summer, but I think I’ve said enough for now. All in all, the upcoming slate of movies looks good to me.
